Sweet E’s Favorites

Dustin, his coworkers, and many of our friends who have tasted my desserts have suggested that I ditch the whole graduate school plan and open a bakery instead. Dustin has already named this fictitious bakery Sweet E’s. As awesome as that would be (1) I am not a morning person/early riser— a necessity when you have all sorts of batters and doughs to make, bake, and let rise (2) I like trying new recipes instead of making the same things over and over again, which may or may not win over customers (3) bakeries are a really hard and expensive business to run, and I don’t have that kind of business knowledge or capital despite wishing I did. However, if I were to ever open a bakery, these are the recipes my taste testers have deemed worthy of selling, along with my absolute favorites! If you see a recipe in this section, there is a darn good reason!

Nutella Stuffed Chocolate Chip Muffins

Nutella Stuffed Chocolate Chip Muffins

Before we get to the food for the day, I wanted to take a moment to point out what you’ve probably already noticed if you’ve visited Wafoodie before. Wafoodie has been completely redesigned and made so much more fun and bright! The awesome graphic designer was, of course, Dustin. He is a total rockstar in…

Banana Nutella Hand Pies

Banana Nutella Hand Pies

I just realized that in a way this dessert is very similar to the banana cream pie that I made for the first episode of True Blood this season (these pies were consumed during the second episode). Chocolate and bananas are the star of the show in both desserts. But in a way, these desserts…

Momofuku Banana Cream Pie

Momofuku Banana Cream Pie

Last weekend was a busy one for us. Saturday morning we got up early, packed up the puppy and went on an 8.5 mile hike up to Poo Poo Point in Issaquah. We’ve been saying we wanted to go hiking before we leave Washington, so we finally got off of our butts and went out.…

Angel Food Cupcakes with Strawberry Mascarpone Frosting

Angel Food Cupcakes with Strawberry Mascarpone Frosting

After all the meat that was consumed on Game of Thrones night, I thought we might want a light dessert to follow. In comes these angel food cupcakes— so much lighter, fluffier, and tastier than anything you can buy at the grocery store. No spongey cake here. These cupcakes are great when you want an…

Fudgey Thin Mint Brownies

Fudgey Thin Mint Brownies

Traveling for nearly three straight weeks was disorienting, and I’m finally feeling up to cooking and baking again. We literally had next to zero food in the house and have been eating all of our dinners out. Of course, we always have pantry staples, and I came back with a couple of boxes of Girl…

Compost Cookies

Compost Cookies

Compost cookies might not sound like an appealing name, but neither were the other options: “garbage cookies” or “kitchen sink cookies.” Promise me when I say these cookies are delicious despite the name, with a little bit of everything you can think of in a cookie recipe (minus the kitchen sink). Basically the idea for this…

Dahlia Bakery Chocolate Truffle Cookies

Dahlia Bakery Chocolate Truffle Cookies

My only gripe about Dahlia Bakery is that they aren’t on the Eastside, so we can’t stock up on their freshly baked bread, treats, and delicious breakfast sandwiches all of the time. So we’ll have to settle for the next best thing—making Dahlia’s treats in our own kitchen from The Dahlia Bakery Cookbook (I love…

Eggnog Cheesecake with Gingerbread Crust

Eggnog Cheesecake with Gingerbread Crust

Merry Christmas 2012! Currently sitting in our fridge waiting to be eaten later tonight for Christmas dessert is this eggnog cheesecake with a gingerbread crust, topped with crushed peppermints. All three popular Christmas flavors rolled into one (hopefully) delicious and rich cheesecake. I hope it tastes as good as it looks (UPDATE: it did!). I…

Top Pot Apple Fritter Ice Cream

Top Pot Apple Fritter Ice Cream

Seattle’s favorite doughnut shop recently came out with a line of doughnut ice creams, and as you can imagine, I was psyched to get into the cafe and try a scoop or two, particularly the apple fritter variety. The apple fritter is arguably Top Pot’s best doughnut. So we went in and tried a scoop…

Momofuku Milk Bar Birthday Cake

Momofuku Milk Bar Birthday Cake

Today is our blog’s birthday! One year ago today we started chronicling all of the recipes we try. We’ve become significantly more adventurous and our cooking skills have greatly improved. A couple of years ago, there was no way I would have ever felt this confident in the kitchen, but with lots of practice and…
