Cake Batter Bark
The food blogging world was just beginning the cake batter craze when I discovered how much I love spending all of my free time looking at pictures of delicious food and finding new recipes to try. I made a mental note to try all of the cake batter recipes I saw, and now I have finally decided to bust open a box of cake mix and get this party started!
My first cake batter recipe was the cake batter chocolate bark from How Sweet It Is. I halved the chocolate in the recipe and made it an 8" x 8" pan covered with parchment paper, but I didn't change the amount of cake mix or sprinkles! I was a little weary of breaking the bark because last time we made bark (peppermint in December and Halloween candy bark in October), the dark and white chocolate parts separated...
So I read a ton of recipes and articles on how to make bark and decided on the method I would use. After putting the melted dark chocolate in the freezer for 20 minutes, I let it rest for a few minutes to soften and wiped any condensation off the top before I poured the white chocolate (and sprinkles) on top and put it back in the freezer. Good news! No breakage this time around.
This treat was pretty delicious and tasted to both me and Dustin like those Hershey's Cookies and Cream candy bars more than cake batter, but it was deliciously addictive. This was intended to be a birthday gift for someone, but our plans changed, which meant Dustin and I got to eat it all by ourselves. Score!
These are so pretty and colorful. Let them eat cake (bark)!
