Smoked Chocolate Lava Cakes
I can't believe it's been nearly a month since I've blogged. It's not that I don't have anything to talk about. In fact, I have a huge backlog of recipes I fully intend to write about. But getting a PhD is a lot of work (in case you haven't heard). Any free time I get, I just want to veg in front of the TV, not write (I get enough of that at school). At the same time, I really do want to continue documentation of our food adventures. So here is my attempt to get back on track....smoked chocolate lava cakes.
Lava cakes have been part of our Valentine's Day celebrations for the last few year (see here and here). This year our Valentine's Day dinner was a bit indulgent, so I waited a few days to make this version, surprising Dustin when he got home from teaching. I used the exact same recipe as my first molten lava cake, replacing regular chocolate chips with smoked chocolate chips from Hot Cakes that we brought back from Seattle. Hot Cakes cold smokes the chocolate chips with alderwood, just like you'd smoke salmon.
Those smoked chocolate chips are seriously amazing and totally worth the cost!
